Not as “in layman’s” terms as I was expecting, so much still went over my head, but I did grasp a few things, retained a few others, and recognized concepts I may not have ten years ago.

“A Brief History of Time” authored by Stephen Hawking, one of the most well known scientists of our generation, explains theoreticized models of our universe in depth and explores the idea of a Grand Unified Theory which would put…

I read this book for the 52 books in 52 weeks reading challenge. I used the 2022 reading prompt read a non- fiction best seller. It is also on the 300 books everyone should read once list featured on Listopia. I was really looking forward…

I thought this version was updated but it only has a few brief entries at the end about dark energy. His mini biography of Issac Newton at the end would suggest that he might not have liked being buried next to him ha ha.

After this 1988 book was published, the joke was that everybody bought it but nobody read it. No wonder: Hawking needed an editor who could deflect his more confusing examples. He speaks against time travel as dangerous to the present…

This book gives a somewhat outdated history of our universe without involving technical explanations. This is its greatest strength and its greatest weakness, Stephen Hawking does a great job of breaking down very complex concepts into…

Stephen Hawking defines the mission of science as being the search for an explanation of everything — the what, the how and the why; a quest that, until the 19th century had been the purview of philosophers and theologians. It’s hardly…

Very good! Understandable for kids, and obviously adults. Kids I stressed in science or/and theories will like this book. Interesting, not just Hawking’s achievements, but also his personal life, and how hard it was for him. Since he…

A brief history of time is a very informative book that talks about complex topics in terms that most people will easily understand. I think that Stephen Hawking is very good at writing down his ideas and theories and explaining them,…

I love this book. It's not technical enough for the scientists and it's too complicated for many of those without at least a basic understanding of physics. Professor Hawking does a fantastic job of using analogies and imagery to…

I found most of this book to be unintelligible. I have a brilliant mind compared to some of the ridiculous comments here. One would have to be an astrophysicist to really have any understanding of the material. For example, waht…

"It's turtles all the way down!" will probably be an iconic line for me for the next bit. On my own, I would have never thought to ever read this. I am very thankful for my friend who was an inspiration to me in her brilliance and sort of…

The problem with popularizations is that something gets lost in the translation. At best, A Brief History of Time reminded me of the predicament of Nuñez in H. G. Wells's "The Country of the Blind." Hawking's doctorate and subsequent work…

I am a 6th grader, and I have came here after reading last book in the Accelerati Trilogy (Hawking's Hallway) by Neal Shusterman and Eric Elfman. I must say, I am very intrigued by all this space-time continuum and time travel and stuff…
