Sandinista! is both the antithesis and epitome of punk rock. Juxtapose 3 bloated, studio albums, void of both inner and outer editor, sprawling in musical directions (most of which not considered punk) with a band in "complete control," tearing up the rule book and agreeing to forego royalties on the first 200,000 copies sold in order to sell Sandinista! at an affordable price. The Clash were too talented to be limited to just "Three chords and the Truth." But there's an album's worth of crap here too. Whoever's idea to put kids on "Career Opportunities" should be stomped with doc martin boots. A challenging album ripe for cherry picking.

The fourth album by the Clash -- originally a three-LP set -- gets my vote for the best rock album of all time. It's brilliant from start to finish, quirky, tuneful, hopeful, heartbreaking, angry, weird and wonderful ... with a little of everything thrown into the mix, from rock, reggae, and rap to disco and dub to funk and folk. "Broadway" may be the best Clash song ever, followed by "The Street Parade" and "Washington Bullets" ... and "The Call-Up" and "If Music Could Talk." I was 19 years old when I bought SANDINISTA! and I've listened to it literally hundreds of times in the past 34 years.

very cool album. one of the better ones.the kids singing "career opportunity" is flat out laugh out loud funny. just make sure you're not laughing on a bus full of teenagers (they tend to look at you funny). and the kid doing "guns of brixton" is the funiest thiing i've ever heard (and seen. i was at the sessions for the album back in the day.).i miss you joseph strummer you were a mate amongst mates.

One of my DID picks (actually ALL of The Clash CD's are on my DID list) because of the music genres this CD covers (reggae, hip-hop, gospel, etc.) I still have the vinyl (3-LP set) an cassette of not just this Clash CD but all of The Clash release's (including the original 1982 release of Combat Rock that was re-called due to the use of a "2000 Flushes" commercial that was included in one of the songs) Yes, I'm a HUGE Clash fan!!

What a crazy album. Sounds nothing like early Clash stuff and has a lot of bizzaro songs on it but good all the same.
