It's been less than a year after the tragic events of Revenge of the Sith, and Obi-Wan Kenobi has just given care of Luke Skywalker, the galaxy's last hope, over to the Larses, unaware of the events years before that begun Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader. And while believing Anakin to be dead and that he could have done more to save him, Obi-Wan must now face the most difficult part of his task of protecting Luke: avoiding attention; becoming Ben Kenobi. But as he repeatedly spots others' trouble, he struggles to avoid reacting to it impassively as Ben Kenobi instead of meeting it head on as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight. John Jackson Miller balances laughs and terrors flawlessly. The themes surround his characters and penetrate them; they bind the story together. Miller gives Kenobi a cheerful face for the other characters to see while showing his true thoughts and feelings without breaking the fourth wall. While this book does provide a great deal of insight into the character that is Obi-Wan Kenobi, he still maintains his aura of mystery that was meant for him in A New Hope. As Obi-Wan's "strange little green uncle" would say: "Do or do not. There is no try." And make a great book, Miller did. - @R2-D2 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
