Ah, a new Harper and Iles novel. I've loved reading every book in the series and this one is top notch.

Susan Issacs' previous books were fun reads. Not this one. It was pretentious, boring, predictable, and no fun at all.

This is a 21st century swashbuckler. The plot is ingenius and complicated. Instead of pirate ships the action takes place on an oil rig that has been converted to a vacation getaway.
Even though the setting seems implausible, the characters come across as very real, because they all have their flaws.

It took me a while to get into this novel, but when I did, I couldn't stop reading.
This is part of a trilogy and I can't wait for the second book to appear.
It is a highly imaginative story with great characters: not all of them sympathetic, but all of them understandable. It took me a while to get into this novel, but when I did, I couldn't stop reading.

This is an easy, quick, mindless, totally predictable, fun read. It would fit easily into a tv format; watch for it.

This book is so bad that words fail me. I couldn't bring myself to read past the first 100 pages and I wouldn't have lasted that long if I hadn't read the author's Gone Girl which is a very good book. I kept thinking this (Dark Places) must get better but it didn't. Skip this one. Read Gone Girl. This book is so bad that words fail me. This is a compelling book. Though non-fiction, it reads like fiction and I found it impossible to put down. Plus, the historical context is extremely interesting. It was enlightening to learn about the inner workings of the British foreign office as they made fateful decisions based on saving face rather than achieving justice for the murdered Pamela Werner. This is a compelling book.
